The Manchester Titans Junior took on the highly rated Coventry Jets Junior team at Salford City Stadium on Sunday 9th June and came away with a determined 28-16 victory.
The Titans opened the scoring on a sweep by RB Avais Shah, with QB Patryk Tomaszewski sneaking in for the 2 point conversion and an 8-0 lead. The Jets came back through GB QB Tom Clancy, who scrambling to his left found his receiver alone in the back of the endzone. A successful run for the 2 point conversion tied the scores at 8-8.
Manchester’s offense continued to move the ball well and a great catch by WR Harrison Holmes took the ball down to the Jets goal-line where Tomaszeski sneaked in for his 3rd TD of the season. The 2 point attempt was unsuccessful and the first quarter ended 14-8 in the Titans favour.
The Titans defense continued to frustrate the Jets offense and in the 2nd quarter, Tomaszewski evaded the Jets pass rush and sprinted into the endzone for a TD. Another sneak by the QB gave Manchester a 22-8 half-time lead.
In the 3rd quarter the Jets defense intercepted Tomaszewski and ran it back for a touchdown, with the 2 point conversion making it 22-16. Things started to get tense but in the 4th Quarter, Manchester put together what would be the game clinching drive with RB David Blake, breaking tackles and running 12 yards for his first ever touchdown. The 2 point attempt failed but Titans held on for the win.
Manchester’s next game is the Jets again – this time in Coventry on Sunday 30th June.
